Panthers Dominate Hurricanes, Take 2-0 Series Lead in Eastern Conference Final

May 23, 2025

The Florida Panthers took full control of the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday night, overpowering the Carolina Hurricanes with a commanding 6-1 win to go up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.

Backed by a fired-up home crowd at Amerant Bank Arena, Florida came out with relentless energy, setting the tone early and never letting Carolina gain traction. The Panthers’ forecheck was aggressive, their transition game was fluid, and their offense was firing on all cylinders.

Matthew Tkachuk opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period, quickly getting the crowd into it and tilting momentum in Florida’s favor. Aleksander Barkov followed with a dazzling individual effort to double the lead, and by the end of the first period, the Panthers had built a 3-0 advantage.

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was sharp throughout, making 28 saves and shutting down the Hurricanes’ top scorers. He continues to be a stabilizing force for Florida during their playoff run.

Carolina managed to get on the board early in the second period with a goal from Martin Nečas, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Sam Reinhart answered just minutes later to restore Florida’s three-goal cushion.

From there, the Panthers didn’t look back. Carter Verhaeghe and Gustav Forsling added goals in the third, while Florida’s defense tightened up and prevented any significant push from the Hurricanes.

The win puts Florida just two victories away from a return trip to the Stanley Cup Final, while Carolina now faces a must-win scenario in Game 3 back on home ice.

Looking Ahead:
The series shifts to Raleigh for Game 3 on Saturday, where the Hurricanes will need to respond with urgency to avoid falling into a 3-0 hole. Meanwhile, the Panthers will look to maintain their momentum and move one step closer to their championship goal.
